For the second ever First Friday Open Studio, we'll make cups by pinching and coiling. Pinching and coiling may seem like simple techniques, but they are the foundation of hand building and throwing skills. Lots of very sophisticated pots are still being made this way today.
We'll learn lots of ways to make comfortable handles and how to attach them so they don't crack and fall off! We will explore how the intended function of the cup can dictate size and shape of both the cup and the handle. We will also explore surface techniques including stamping, pressing, painting with slip, and incising.
As always, feel free to bring any refreshments that you may enjoy.
